A High-Yield Route to 1,2-Dihydrocyclobutabenzene-3,6-dicarboxylic Acid

All articles of this category A simple five-step method for preparing the previously unknown 1,2-dihydrocyclobutabenzene-3,6-dicarboxylic acid (XTA) in high yield is presented. All intermediates were crystalline compounds which allowed the preparation to be scaled up without complication. The title compound is of interest as a crosslinkable derivative of the widely used monomer, terephthalic acid (TA).
