Germanium‐Centered Anions

The present chapter is a review of the chemistry of germanium-centered anions covering literature from the 1950s to 2020. The main focus is on structurally interesting and synthetically useful germanides. Besides aryl, alkyl and silyl substituted germyl anions, a number of germanides containing heteroatoms (functionalized germanides), as well as dianionic compounds and examples of metalated sp 2 -hybridized germanium atoms, are described.
