Some Dissolution Aspects of Ferrous Sulfate Tablets

The rate of dissolution of ferrous sulfate from twelve tablet formulations has been determined in water and in simulated gastric fluid. There are marked differences in the rate at which ferrous sulfate is released from these formulations. These differences are attributed to chemical reactions occurring between ferrous sulfate and other ingredients of the tablets, to surface adsorption of ferrous sulfate and to other formulation variables.
