Exploration on the study of wire and cable flammability by using cone calorimeter

Cone calorimeter is described in ISO 5660,which describes a test specimen with an area of 100 mm×100 mm exposed to a constant radiant heat flux.The testing results include heat release rate(calculated using oxygen depletion),time to ignition,smoke production and weight loss.At present,cone calorimeter method is one of the most important testing methods to study the flammability of building materials.However,this method does not refer to how to measure the flammability of the wires and cables.In this paper,the possibility by using cone calorimeter to test wires and cables flammability has been discussed.
