摘要
The rise of the service sector has contributed to the growth of research attention and effort devoted to emotional labor. Since the first seminal work on emotional labor by Arlie Russell Hochschild, extensive research has been conducted to understand the nature, consequences, and antecedents of emotional labor. The conceptualizations of emotional labor have shifted from job‐centered characteristics and expectations to person‐centered intrapsychic processes. Emotion regulation theories have been applied to explain the emotional labor process. Various conceptualizations, theoretical perspectives, and major findings are reviewed and discussed in the entry.
