摘要
Abstract Bifuran polymers are emerging as a promising class of biomass‐derived polymers with significant potential for various applications, and there is an urgent need to expand their diversity. In this study, we report the synthesis of a novel polyester, poly(2,2′‐difuran‐5,5′‐diethylene glycol dicarboxylate) (PDEBF) using dimethyl 2,2′‐bifuran‐5,5′‐dicarboxylate and diglycol as monomers through a transesterification and melt condensation process. The structure, molecular weight and properties of PDEBF were comprehensively characterized using a range of techniques: 1 H NMR and FT‐IR spectroscopy confirmed its chemical structure; gel permeation chromatography (GPC) determined its molecular weight distribution; UV–vis spectroscopy evaluated its optical properties; thermal analysis was conducted via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC); while X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM) revealed its crystalline characteristics. Specifically, POM analyses demonstrated that PDEBF exhibits thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior. TGA results indicated that PDEBF possesses excellent thermal stability comparable to commercial PET, along with high heat resistance. Moreover, its extended conjugated structure endows it with superior UV‐shielding capability. These distinctive structural features and properties make PDEBF a promising candidate for applications in packaging, the electronics industry, and other fields where high‐performance materials are required.
