HLA-DRB1*01:03 and Severe Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic, immune-mediated disease with increasing incidence.1 There is a clinical need to identify biomarkers of severe disease to capture subgroups requiring intensified monitoring and treatment to avoid repeat hospitalizations and surgical procedures.2 This study aimed to identify biomarkers by conducting a Danish nationwide genome-wide association study (GWAS) on severe vs less severe ulcerative colitis.
