Direct C(sp 3 )–H chloromethylation through CH 2 Cl 2 activation using non-thermal plasma

Catalyst-free chloromethylation of alkanes is achieved via non-thermal plasma activation of CH 2 Cl 2 under ambient conditions. A 30% yield of chlorinated products from cyclohexane is obtained in 60 s. A radical mechanism has been proposed.
