Predicting the progression of patients with CCUS to myeloid neoplasia

In The Lancet Haematology, Catherine Cargo and colleagues1 report outcomes, including malignant progression and survival, in a prospective cohort of patients with cytopenias who underwent sequencing to detect clonal haematopoiesis in the form of single nucleotide variants. Unlike previous work in this area, this study used a prospective cohort of clinically well characterised patients and is representative of all patients clinically referred for bone marrow examination. Clonal haematopoiesis refers to the clonal expansion of haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.
