A sidelobe cancellation approach for phase-only array antennas: On initial-weight estimation

This paper proposes a two-step array pattern synthesis approach for phase-only array antennas. The proposed algorithm estimates the phase-only weights which minimize the error between the estimated array pattern and a desired (synthesized) array pattern by using a least square error method. The estimated weight vector is useful as the initial point for other iterative optimization methods. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the proposed algorithm using a planar array antenna.
