A New Route to the Synthesis of Indolo[2,3-a]carbazoles

Abstract A straightforward, easy and smooth process of synthesizing indolo[2,3-a]carbazoles, which can frequently serve as a nucleus of several natural products is reported. The process involves only two steps viz. single electron transfer reaction and subsequent reductive cyclization with hydrazine.
