摘要
Biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric formulations are required in diverse biomedical applications. Among various polymers, polyaspartamide-derivative-based formulations are extensively employed in recent years because of their simple synthesis methods, biodegradability, biocompatibility, and successful validations in preclinical research. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the emerging potentials of polyaspartamide polymers in the field of nanomedicine. Specifically, this review describes the development of these polymer-based formulations and their applications in bioimaging, drug delivery, and gene delivery. At first, we briefly describe the methods of polymer synthesis and functionalization with essential molecules to derive functional polyaspartamide. Next, the successful utilization of these functional polymers in different biomedical fields is extensively summarized. In particular, the successful exploitation of these functional polymers as coating materials for inorganic nanoparticles, as delivery carriers for therapeutic agents, and as scaffolds in tissue engineering is summarized. Finally, the future biomedical application potential has been highlighted.
