Preparation of Purified KHSO5·H2O and nBu4NHSO5 from Oxone by Simple and Efficient Methods

The chemistry of various salt forms of Oxone, an environmentally friendly oxidant, has been investigated. In addition to advances in the preparation of analytically pure KHSO5·H2O and nBu4NHSO5, a soluble form of this oxidant, we have also studied some of the known oxidative chemistry that utilizes Oxone as the oxidant. Our results indicate that utilizing purified reagents makes these reactions easier to workup and amenable to large scale synthesis because the amount of salt in the reaction has been greatly reduced.
