摘要
Adhesives are versatile materials with remarkable capabilities and easy curing mechanisms. They find extensive usage in many fields, including building and medicine. An urgent need exists to find alternative, more sustainable ways to access raw materials as a result of the rising demand for petroleum-based goods and the resulting damage to the environment. Because they use fossil fuels-derived chemicals, which aren't exactly a green energy source, glue businesses are especially hit hard by this fact. Biopolymers play a significant role in this area and include cellulose, vegetable oils, starch, lignin, and proteins, among other materials. The synthetic processes still should be simplified, and the biopolymer stability and performance of these novel bio-based adhesive formulations should be improved. Substantial improvements and innovations are required. With any luck, this eco-friendly approach will eventually lead to the complete or near-total substitution of non-renewable petroleum-based feedstock. This chapter looks at the main points of common adhesives and gives an honest assessment of their pros and cons. Novel and environmentally friendly alternatives, especially those based on lignocellulose, are also brought to light, together with the difficulties they encounter.
