Study on Port City Development Strategy:A Discussion on" Prosperity of Port City Depends on Portal Prosperity"Principle

Spatial structure of port city is a combination of port spatial realm and city spatial realm,but in different development targets.It has been long recognized that of port city depends on portal prosperity principle should be development and planning ideas of all port cities.Consequently,coastal cities of China have built considerable portal infrastructures and made policies of promoting port industry,leading to the intensification of competitiveness and redundant resource allocation among city ports.Development histories of different port cities have been compared in this paper,and it is found that port development is not necessarily to be consistent with port city development.Port decline may not cause city recession.Port city sustainable development should be the result of the interaction of port function realization and hinterland socio-economic development.Port function modification,hinterland socio-economic development and regional policy implementation should be integrated.Currently,for the sustainable development of Chinese port cities,it is necessary to investigate the possibility of differentiation between port development and port city development on the one hand,and adjust port city development strategies following economic development emphasis on the other hand.
