Simply Modified Mcbride's Method and Modified Mcbride's Method Combined with Osteotomy of the Frist Metatarsal Bone for the Treatment of Moderate to Hallus Valgus
Objective To compare the results of simply modified Mcbride's method and modified Mcbride's method combined with osteotomy of the frist metatarsal bone for the treatment of moderate to hallus valgus. Methods 57 cases of hallux valgus were treated with surgically from Jun 2003 to Sept 2006,30 cases(47 feet) of them were treated with simply modified Mcbride's method, the others(40 feet) were treated with modified Mcbride's method combined with osteotomy of the frist metatarsal bone. Results An average 28-months follow-up showed that the satisfactory effects was 95.7% and 97.7% in two groups. Conclusion Both methods especially the method of modified Mcbride's combined with osteotomy of the frist metatarsal bone is a combination of bone and soft tissues,so that it could give reliable orthopedic effects on the inter-metatarsal angles(IMA) and the hallus valgus angle(HVA) as well as the appearance of the foot.
