Next-Generation Sequencing Assisted in Establishing the Diagnosis and Treatment for a Chinese Patient With Breast and Lung Multiple Primary Malignancies

Multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) are malignancies in the same patient with two or more different tissue origins.1 MPMs are easily confused with tumor metastases. Here we report a dual primary cancer initially misdiagnosed as breast cancer metastasis to the lung. With the application of next-generation sequencing (NGS), the specific driver mutations were identified, which corrected the diagnosis and resulted in clinical benefit for the patient.
