Ultrasound and Ultrasonic Imaging in Medicine: Recent Advances

Sound is a form of energy and occurs as a result of the vibration of objects. Ultrasound is the name given to sound waves with a frequency that is too high for the human ear to hear and an acoustic wave in a solid, liquid, or gaseous medium. While the usage areas of ultrasonic applications are increasing gradually, ultrasound has been used in science and technology for a long time. It is also widely accepted as a medical imaging technology in the last century due to its use without harm or pain to the patient. In this chapter, the theory of ultrasound, the usage areas of ultrasound technology, and how it is applied in medicine are discussed. In addition, the latest imaging methods using ultrasound in the medical field are highlighted.
