Zinc(II)‐Catalyzed Green Synthesis of 1H‐Benzo[d]imidazole Derivatives and Thiabendazole: An Efficient Approach

Abstract A green protocol for the synthesis of 1 H ‐benzo[ d ]imidazole derivatives, utilizing zinc(II) catalysis in a one‐pot strategy is successfully developed. This method efficiently accomplishes the reaction of o ‐phenylenediamine with a variety of aldehydes, yielding benzimidazoles with superior efficiency spanning a broad substrate scope. An admirable application of this protocol is the synthesis of Thiabendazole, an anthelmintic drug highlighting a prominent achievement in drug synthesis. Mild operational conditions and excellent yields make this methodology highly sustainable.
