Age-related morphological changes in the aortic wall in dissecting aneurysm

Quantitative and qualitative changes in the smooth muscle cells were due to both patient age and concomitant hypertension. In young patients, aortic dissection was more frequently caused by a genetically determined disorder in the elastic skeleton in obvious substitutive sclerosis.
