Skin Phototoxicity of Cosmetics: an Analytic Report

Objective To test the skin phototoxicity of cosmetics.Methods Total of 287 samples of different kinds of cosmetics were tested for skin irritation and phototoxicity according to Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics(2007) in 2005-2008,and the results were analyzed by category.Results As for skin irritation test,3 samples were positive in speckle removing cosmetic,3 in sun cream and 4 in fair complexion cream.As for phototoxicity test,one was positive in hair tonic,2 in speckle removing cosmetic,one in sun cream,one in fair complexion.The positive rate of skin phototoxicity in home products was 12.1% and in import products was 0.4%.The positive rate of skin irritation in home products was higher than that in import products.Conclusion As for skin phototoxicity,the positive rate of import cosmetics is significantly lower compared with home products.
