Objective To study the ultrasonographic and mammographic characteristics of early breast cancer, and to improve its diagnostic accuracy.Materials and Methods Fifty patients with breast cancer and 20 patients with benign breast masses, proved pathologically, underwent ultrasonography and mammography within 10 days after mensis. Results Ultrasonography demonstrated breast cancer in 39 cases, the sensitivity and specificity were 78.0% and 85.0%, respectively, with the accuracy of 80.0%; while mammography revealed breast cancer in 41 cases, the sensitivity and specificity were 82.0% and 90.0%, respectively, with the accuracy of 84.3%. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy could reach to 96.0%, 76.5% and 90.4%, respectively, when ultrasonography and mammography were combined together. Conclusion Ultrasonography combined with mammography can increase the diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy of early breast cancers.
