Monitoring of particulate organic carbon(POC) is meaningful for the research of oceanic carbon circulation and global change.For the purpose of exploration of POC measurement method,the concept and composition of POC was firstly introduced.The ordinary measurement method of POC as well as the progress of the study of POC abroad and home was described.And the mechanism of remotely sensed detection of POC in the research abroad was represent.After the comparison analysis between the ordinary measurement and remotely sensed detection of POC,we think that the later technology will become the important method for marine environment monitoring.Based on the remotely sensed retrieval algorithm of POC which was established using the blue-to-green ratio,we detected the POC in Bohai Sea with the MODIS data in August,2009.The result showed the whole POC pattern in large scale in the Bohai Sea.The highest value of POC was 370 mg/m3.It was concluded that remotely sensed detection method can reveal the POC variety in the sea effectively,rapidly and directly.So the study on establishing a bio-optical remotely sensed model for POC monitoring will be one important field of the research of marine environment monitoring and oceanic carbon circulation.
