Growth inhibition effect of phenicol antibiotics on Chlorella pyenoidosa

The growth inhibition effects of phenicol antibiotics,including florfenicol(FF),thiamphenicol(TAP) and chloramphenicol(CAP),on a freshwater green algae Chlorella pyenoidosa,were examined in an artificial-lighting incubator.The results showed that FF,TAP and CAP inhibited the growth of the algae in a time-and dose-dependent manner.The medial effective concentrations(EC50) of FF,TAP,and CAP for 48 h were 10.42,84.35 and 28.66 mg/L,as well as 9.40,64.92 and 25.26 mg/L for 96 h,respectively.Therefore,the safe concentrations of FF,TAP and CAP for Chlorella pyenoidosa were 0.94,6.49 and 2.53 mg/L respectively.Our results also demonstrated that,the three phenicol antibiotics inhibited the growth of Chlorella pyenoidosa in the order of FFCAPTAP.
