The adsorbing capability of dye and hydroxybenzene is compared by palygorskite clay and various modified palygorskite clay. It is found that adsorbing capability of dye and hydroxybenzene may be improved largely by palygorskite clay which is modified with 1 M phosphoric acid. it is thought that the adsorption of palygorskite clay is outer surface adsorption colloid and ion exchange adsorpsion. the mechanism of the modification which improves the adsorbing capacity of palygorskite clay is that the structural electric charge and surface electric charge of the clay granules in palygorskite and adsorbing activity are modified.
