The effects of addition amount of RE and pouring temperature on the morphology of primary phase in Al-4.5Cu alloy were investigated. The results show that semi-solid Al-4.5Cu alloy with non-dendrite structure can be obtained by adding tiny RE and controlling pouring temperature. With the decrease of pouring temperature, primary phase in the alloy with 0.5% RE changes from dendritic crystal to spherical crystal. When pouring temperature is 660 ℃,with the increase of RE addition, dendritic crystal changes from equiaxed crystal to rose-shape crystal, and transforms into spherical crystal. As pouring temperature decreasing, primary phase in the alloy without RE addition changes from large dendritic crystal to equiaxed crystal.
