Clinical Comparative Observations on Acupuncture Treatment of 200 Simple Obesity Patients by Syndrome Differentiation

Objective To investigate the clinical effects of different acupuncture treatments based on syndrome differentiation in reducing body fat and weight in simple obesity patients. Methods Two hundred patients with simple obesity were randomly allocated to five groups, that is, filiform needle acupuncture, acupuncture plus auricular-plaster therapy, acupuncture plus cupping, acupuncture plus iontophoresis, and electroacupuncture, 40 cases each. Acupuncture treatment was given once every other day, 15 times as a course. The clinical effects of different acupuncture treatments were compared at the end of the course. Results There was no marked effectiveness in 3, 2, 2, 1 and 2 patients, respectively, in the five groups. The total efficacy rate was 95%. Conclusion Acupuncture based on syndrome differentiation is an effective way to treat simple obesity.
