The growth characteristics and baicalin accumulation were investigated in both Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi callus and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. The results suggested that the growth of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi callus and the baicalin synthesis were not at the same time, callus growed firstly and then synthesized its secondary metabolism products.June and August were peak times for the grouth of this plant. The biomass was increased by 582% from June to July in the aboveground of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and the primary metabolism was mainly carried out.Between September and October, the content of baicalin in the roots was accumulated greatly, which was increased by 76.4% compared with September but the content of baicalin in the stems and leafs reduced obviously, respectively 33.8% and 21.5% and it suggested that it was rapidly transformed from primary metabolism to secondary metabolism during the stage, which was very similar to the accumulation regularity of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi callus.
