Function Evaluation and Management Plan of Replacement Wetlands in the Rivers

From 2008 to 2013, South Korea had carried out a river improvement project named Four River Project for flood protection and water supply during drought. In addition, the replacement wetlands were created in riverside at the same time as Four River Project to consider the environment of the river. However, the management problem of replacement wetlands has been encountered because the evaluation of the wetland functions for the conservation of the river environment was not done properly after creation of replacement wetland. So, it is necessary to evaluate the functions of the replacement wetlands and to establish a management plan of the wetlands. The wetland functions could be evaluated in hydrological, ecological and geological aspects. To do this, we compare and analyze the wetland function between replacement wetlands before/after Four River Project to evaluate the wetland function and establish a wetland management plan. Also, we evaluate the wetland functions associated with hydrological, biogeochemical, plant habitat, and animal habitat variables for the suggestion of the wetland management plan. Therefore, we expect that this study could be used as an idea for management plan of future replacement wetlands with climate change.
