An analytical method for determination of total content of citric acid and sodium citrate in erythrocyte preserve fluid (MAP) by high performance liquid chromatography was developed. In the method citric acid and sodium citrate were chromatographically separated on an Inertsil ODS3 packed column (250 mm×46 mm id,5 μm) at 40 ℃ in less than 15 min, using a mobile phase of 17-18 mmol/L phosphoric acid solution (pH 20-25) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Propionic acid was employed as internal standard, and detection was set at 210 nm. Relative standard deviation (RSD) of sample determination was 037%, and average recovery of sodium citrate was 998%. The developed method was demonstrated to be simple, fast and sensitive, thus suitable for the analysis of citric acid or sodium citrate in real product samples.
