Effects of sequential and combination chemotherapy with docetaxel, epirubicin and cyclophosphamide on fasting plasma glucose of patients with breast cancer
Objective To compare the effects of docetaxel combined with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide(TEC) versus doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by docetaxel(EC-T) chemotherapy regimens on fasting plasma glucose in patients with breast cancer. Methods Fasting plasma glucose of 114 women received TEC chemotherapy and 99 women received EC-T chemotherapy in 2007-2010 were retrospectively reviewed and compared. Results Fasting plasma glucose was abnormally increased in 4 patients receiving EC-T chemotherapy regimen and in 12 patients receiving TEC chemotherapy regimen(P 0.05).Conclusion The effects of TEC chemotherapy regimen on fasting plasma glucose were larger than those of EC-T chemotherapy regimen. We suggest that breast cancer patients should choose EC-T chemotherapy regimen in order to decrease the risk of increasing fasting plasma glucose abnormally if permitted.
