Cooperative Principle and Euphemism

Cooperative Principle proposed by Grice is the vital pragmatic principle used in communication.Observing cooperative principle is prerequisite of successful communication,however,purposeful violating maxims of cooperative principle can produce conversational implication,making the language more vivid and energetic.Euphemism plays an important role in daily communication and beautifying language.This paper discusses the relationship between cooperative principle and euphemism from the pragmatic perspective,and explores the aim of using euphemism.
