Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Bifid Triple Viable(BTV) on diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D) and its functional mechanism. Methods 80 patients with IBS-D were randomly divided into two experimental groups: BTV with Pinaverium Bromide group(Group A,n=40) and Pinaverium Bromide group(brand name: Dicetel)(Group B,n=40).30 healthy people were included as the control group(Group C).The course of treatment was four weeks. The expressions of serum IL-18/IL-10 in experimental groups were determined by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The patients who were cured and responded after treatment were followed up for 4 weeks.Results(1) The total effective rate of Group A was 88.89%,which was much higher than Group B(65.62%)(P0.05).4 weeks after withdrawal,Group A had 4 cases of recurrence or progression(recurrence rate 12.5%),while Group B had 9 cases(42.9%).The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P0.01).(2) The levels of IL-18 in Group A and Group B were significantly higher than that of Group C before treatment. After 4 weeks of treatment, there was no significant difference in the level of IL-18 between Group A and Group C,but that of Group B was still higher than that of Group C.The levels of IL-10 in Group A and Ggroup B were significantly lower than that of Group C before treatment. After treatment, there was no significant difference in IL-10 level between Group A and Group C,but Group B was still lower than Group C.Conclusion BTV is effective in treating IBS-D and preventing its recurrence.Immune regulation may be the main mechanism of the treatment.
