Detection of Plasma Endothelin and Serum Nitric Oxide in Patients with Alopecia Areata and Its Clinical Significance

Objective:To investigate the correlation between expression of plasma endothelin (ET) and serum nitric oxide (NO) in patients with alopecia areata(AA) and clinical severity of the disease. Methods:The levels of plasma ET and serum NO were respectively detected by radio-immunoassay and Greiss reaction in 23 patients with active AA, 11 patients with stable AA and 25 normal controls. Results:Compared with those in normal controls, the levels of plasma ET and ET/NO in patients with active AA were statistics significant(P0.05),but the serum NO was not significant; there was no statistics significance in the levels of plasma ET, serum NO and ET/NO between patients with stable AA and normal controls. Conclusion:ET and ET/NO may be involved in the pathogenesis of AA. [
