Walnut peel, a natural waste, is proposed as a green corrosion inhibitor because of its unique chemical structure. The walnut peel extract was here modified using Mannich reaction to achieve a relatively stable eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor. The corrosion inhibition of walnut peel extract (WPE) and its derivatives (mwpes) on A3 steel in 5% HCl solution was studied by weight loss method. The results indicate that both WPE and mwpe have ability to effectively inhibit corrosion, particularly WPE. The antibacterial effect of the extracts varied with the concentration and reaction temperature. In addition, the best modifier as well as its optimized corrosion inhibition effect are obtained via changing the type and amount of modifier.
