Objective: The aim of this study was to assess changes in condylar position following bimaxillary advancement osteotomy using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) Materials and Methods: 33 patients who underwent maxillary and mandibular advancement surgeries were analyzed. The average age for these subjects was 23 years; there were 22 females and 11 males. The preoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were performed one week before surgery (T1), one week after surgery (T2), and eight weeks after surgery (T3). A technique was utilized to superimpose the three surgical time point images for direct measurement of condylar displacement and angulation changes. Results: After one and eight weeks post-surgical the lateral pole of both the right and left condyles moved in a superior direction. The mean amount of superior displacement at both one and eight weeks was 1.2mm. There were no significant correlations between the amount of advancement and changes in condylar position. No significant changes in condylar angulation were noted.
