A Novel Design of X-band Microwave Absorber Based on Metamaterial

In this paper, a metamaterial microwave absorber with a shape of rotating open square double ring is proposed for X-band frequency. The absorber has a unit cell with a size of 0.1λ × 0.1λ × 0.072λ at 10 GHz and consists of a resonant layer, substrate, and metal ground. By adjusting parameters of the resonant elements, high absorptivity in the X-band is achieved. The simulation results show that the absorptivity is higher than 94% in the X-band range and has two distinctive absorption peaks with the absorptivities of about 99% occurring at the frequencies of 8.44 GHz and 11.10 GHz, respectively. Also the absorber is insensitive to both the polarization and incident angle of incident wave.
