The Origin of Secondary Phases in Melt-Grown Fluorapatite Crystals

Czochralski‐grown fluorapatite boules contain inclusions identified as The morphology and composition of the inclusions depends on the fluoride content of the melt from which a crystal is pulled. Evidence of precipitation in these crystals suggests that some solid solution occurs in fluorapatite at high temperatures. Both inclusions and precipitates promote cleavage of the pulled crystals.
