摘要
Over the past five decades, the need of sophisticated advanced materials with more functionalities and safety is increasing within the automotive sector. Also, regulations on the reduction of CO 2 emission are becoming mandatory all over the globe and this presents a significant challenge for vehicle manufactures. A primary solution route is through reduction of the overall weight of automotive vehicles. Current research is focused toward finding alternative materials and composites that can replace 20%–30% of the overall automobile weight. Composite technology is evolving quickly and will further replace traditional methods of automobile component production. This article reports various technologies currently available for composite materials production for automobile components, along with their advantages and limitations.
