Free-Living Nematodes From Sudan

Seven species were found in ten freshwater samples from Western Sudan and two soil samples from Central Sudan. All species are much shorter than those known from the literature. Rhodolaimus ritae sp. n. is distinguished by the large rounded ridge on the right side and slightly posterior to the head, followed by two parallel arms. At the posterior end females are characterized by a single flap and males by three flaps. At the left side there are 5 + 3 + 5 longitudinal lines. S.E.M. revealed that Cruznema tripartitum is characterized by large rounded lips with their interior tips curved to the inside and cuticular blocks with two pits. Bursilla littoralis and B. vernalis are synonymized with B. microbursaris. S.E.M. showed that Achromadora micoletzkyi has a characteristic cuticular structure and lip structure with papilliform labial sensilla found between and just behind liplets. Prismatolaimus intermedius showed a wide variation in number and distribution of somatic setae, in tail tip curvature and in cardia shape. Plectus aquatilis shows a variable lateral field. Teratorhabditis dentifera is also reported.
