Research progress on the prevetion of etomidate-induced myoclonus in anesthetic induction

Background Etomidate is one of the general anesthetics used widely in clinical practice,which has little effect on both respiration and circulation and has advantage in fast induction and recovery..However,how to prevent the etomidate-induced myoclonus in anesthetsia induction is still one of the challenges that anesthetists faced.Objective To review the research progress on the prevetion of etomidate-induced myoclonus in anesthetic induction.Content This paper reviews the mechanisms of etomidate-rclated myoclonus and the effect of pretreatment of different kinds of drug on the prevention of etomidate-related myoclonus.Trend Pretreating with different drugs such as benzodiazepine,opiates and muscle relaxants,can be effective against etomidaterelated myoclonus.However,the optimal drug,dosage as well as the mechanism in myoclonus prevention are still needed further research.
