The preliminary study on the effect of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron on weight control in rats and toxicity test.

Objective To preliminaril study the effect of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron on weight control in Obese rats.Method A strain of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron was extracted,separated and identified from human intestine.High-energy feed-induced rat models of obesity were built,and intragastriced with the liquid of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron.After 25 days,the weight and change in the number of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron were observed.Result The body weight of the group intragastriced with the liquid of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron,increased more slouly compared with that of the group intragastriced with saline,solution,while the number of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron of the former was more then that of the latter group.The differences were significant(P0.05).Conclusion Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron has a certain effect of weight reduction in obese rats.
