Objective To observe the efficacy and safety of bisoprolol in treatment of chronic heart failure(CHF).Method 125 patients with CHF(NYHA grade Ⅱ to Ⅳ,LVEF≤40%) were randomized into 2 groups: bisoprolol group and carvedilol group. The whole study lasted 30 weeks.Patients' heart function was evaluated during each follow-up examination and adverse events were recorded. Results The LVEF was improved significantly after treatment(increasing by 11% in bisoprolol group and 12% in carvedilol group,P0.01).The symptoms in both groups were improved, the numbers of cases of NYHA grade Ⅲ were reduced to 5(8.1%) in bisoprolol group and to 6(9.5%) in carvedilol group(P0.01).There was no significant difference in incidence of adverse events between bisoprolol group(32.3%)and carvedilol group(34.9%).Conclusion Bisoprolol is as safe and effective as carvedilol for treatment of chronic heart failure and has same long-term therapeutic efficacy.
