Study on the Chemical Constituents of Caesalpinia sappan

Nine compounds were isolated from the heartwood of Caesalpinia sappan L..On the basis of spectral data,they were identified as brazilein(1),brazilin(2),(±)-lyoniresinol (3),stearic acid(4),stigmasterol(5),(E)-3,3′-dimethoxy-4,4′-dihydroxystilbene(6),(-)-syringaresinol(7),protosappanin A(8),and brazilide(9).Among them,compounds 3,6 and 7 were obtained from this genus for the first time.
