Holographic interconnections and their applications

Several holographic architectures have been proposed for implementing free-space optical interconnections. These architectures have important advantages over electronic systems and systems that use classical optical components. In addition, volume holograms, which provide high diffraction efficiency, can improve the light efficiency of the system. However, two major problems in using holograms as interconnection components are seldom considered. These are holographic distortion and the uniformity of diffraction efficiency owing to Bragg mismatch.
