Stability control of expansive soil slope is a major difficulty for engineering construction. In this paper, through discussing the stability of expansive soil slope, the unstable mode of expansive soil slope is summarized to shallow surface damage and overall arc damage, expansive soil slope is divided into weathered layer and unweathered layer for stability analysis, and the method of parameters selection for stability calculation is put forward.According to the case study of Hefei-Liu' an Highway, the stability of medium expansive soil slope and weak expansive soil slope are separately discussed under the effect of slope height, slope ratio and weathered layer thickness using overall damage and shallow damage analysis method, and these two failure modes are analyzed through comparison. It is shown that slope ratio and weathered layer thickness have larger influence on expansive soil slope and slope has a certain stabilization ratio. In this engineering, with atmospheric influence depth of 1.5~2.0 m,the stabilization ratio of medium expansive soil slope is 1∶ 2.0~1∶ 2.5 and that of weak expansive soil slope is 1∶ 1.5.Expansive soil slope is mainly damaged on shallow surface, the stability of which is subject to shallow failure mode.
