An Approximate Calculation Method for Bending Deflection of Sandwich Plate

An approximate calculation method for bending deflection of sandwich plate is proposed based on Hoff sandwich plate theory.Deflections of faceplate and core are calculated separately under transverse loads.Then the total deflection of sandwich plate can be obtained by sum of each deflections.The method avoids introducing two unknown quantities of deflection angles in two directions.Only using solutions of single sheet can calculate the bending deflection distribution of sandwich plate.The results of examples show that when the thickness ratio between faceplate and core is smaller than 0.67,the error of deflection between Hoff theory and the method in the paper is acceptable,and Hoff theory can be replaced by the method presented in the paper to calculate the bending deflections of sandwich plates.
