Three hundred thirty four actinomycete strains were isolated from soil samples taken from diverse ecologi-cal environments in Yunnan Province. Using Colletrotrichum liliacearum as the indicator species, greenhouse potexperiments were conducted to determine efficacy of fermentation extracts from the actinomycetes in inhibiting sporegermination and mycelial growth. Preliminary screening identified 18 strains with strong inhibition of conidia germination,24 strains that inhibited mycelial growth, and 14 strains showing 60% curative activity on detached leaves. Amongthese, fermentation extracts from 10 strains, including YIM31927 and YIM31047, provided consistent Colletrotrichumliliacearum control as determined by spore germination inhibition, mycelial growth inhibition, and curative effects ondetached leaves. These actinomycete strains have potential for development as fungicides.
