Effects of achyranthes bidentata ecdysterone on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats

Objective To study the effect of Achyranthes Bidentata Ecdysterone(ABE) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.Methods 8-month-old SD female rats were allotted to one of five groups: Sham group,ovariectomized group and the three groups received different doses of ABE respectively for three months.The parameters were measured after the sacrifice of the rats.Results Treatment with high and middle dosage of ABE was capable of improving bone density as well as biological mechanical and bone histomorphometric indexes in ovariectomized rats,while low-dose of ABE was less effective.Conclusion ABE shows effects on treatment of osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats in a dose-dependent manner.
