Objective To investigate the effect and the advantage of jejunal nutritional support for patients with severe acute pancreatitis. Methods Seventy cases of hospitalized severe acute pancreatitis were selected and randomly divided into parenteral nutrition support group and jejunostomy feeding tube group, and each group had 35 cases.Jejunostomy feeding tube group received the enteral nutrition support of nutrient solution during the 48 hours after pathogenesis of pancreatitis. While parenteral nutrition support group were fasting 7 days to 15 days according to patients' condition and received the parenteral nutrition support of amino acids, fat emulsion and glucose.Defecation time, incidence of complication, infection ratio and length of stay were observed compared between two groups. Results The defecation time and length of stay of jejunostomy feeding tube group respectively were (2.11 ± 1.80) days and (10.37 ± 3.54) days, and that of parenteral nutrition support group were (4.23 ± 1.66 ) days and ( 18.14 ± 6.22 ) days, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant (t =2.119,4.242,respectively; P < 0.05).And the incidence of complication, infection ratio of jejunostomy feeding tube group was significantly lower than that of parenteral nutrition support group ( 17.14% vs 48.57 %,11.43 % vs 31.43 % ),with significant difference ( x2 =3.476,2.961 ;P < 0.05).Conclusions It is safe to utilize jejunostomy feeding tube for nutritional support at early stage in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis, which can shorten the defecation time and the length of stay, and reduce the incidence of complication and infection ratio.
